Introduction
Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment through proactive patrols, monitoring of CCTV and access control systems as well as professional response to incidents and emergencies while delivering excellent customer service and accurate incident reporting.
Job description
- Always guard the NEF against any safety and security breaches.
- Ensuring all personnel (staff, tenants and clients) go through access control process before entering and exiting the building.
- Ensure all dangerous objects are detected and declared by clients or staff accessing the building from reception area.
- All dangerous object declared are kept and registered at the security access point and further stored in a firearm safe found at security reception.
- Maintain and write detailed incident reports on all irregular incidents that might occur during shifts and keep records thereof.
- Monitor the movements of visitors and contractors on the building and ensure that the correct security protocol is followed.
- Conduct patrols in line with the standard operating procedures.
- Log any irregularities that are picked up through the control room via the surveillance equipment.
- Report any camera faults or CCTV system issues to the OHS & Security Manager and/or the Security Supervisors to ensure that cameras are repaired timeously.
- All occurrences or incidents are recorded in the occurrence books.
- Ensure patrol and inspection are done correctly and consistently.
- Ensure all contractors entering the building are always recorded in the register and escorted into the building to perform their required assignment under monitoring by security.
- Ensure adherence to the Occupational, Health and Safety procedures of the NEF by all employees and visitors.
- Assist in the safeguarding of property and assets during events within the NEF.
- Liaise with emergency and health services if required for large events.
- All private assets entering the organisation to be recorded on the asset register.
- Report safety issues such as vandalism and damage to property to the Facilities Manager and/ or Supervisor.
- Keep an eye on the exit and entrance of the building to safeguard the assets of the NEF and the employees.
- Be the safety and security ambassador by educating employees and the visitors on safety issues within the organisation.
- Inspect escape routes and participate in evacuation drill exercise.
- Ensure water tank monitoring system is working.
- Ensure back-up generator is tested weekly.
Minimum requirements
Experience / Skills Required
- 1 year experience as a Security Officer.
- Experience with PSIRA regulations and qualifications.
- Working Knowledge and experience of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act No. 85 of 1993 and regulations as amended.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to stay alert during long shifts.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to report incidents clearly and accurately.
- Preference will be given to South African citizens.
- Must be willing to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualification Requirements
- Matric
- Grade ‘A, B or C’ PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulating Authority) security officer's certificate
