We are recruiting for a Financial Controller who will join our Finance team.
Job description

General Responsibilities
  • Manage and take accountability for general ledger and sub-ledger input and output 
  • Supervise team and monitoring the performance of the department’s daily activities and processes 
  • Review and approve all reconciliations 
  • Review, audit and approve third party accounts and transactions 
  • Review, audit and monitor corporate expenses and reporting 
  • Manage and take accountability overall cash and treasury management and reporting 
Month and Year End
  • Provide key contribution in the compilation of various reporting packs to key stakeholders 
  • Manage and take accountability for key contribution to monthly and quarterly management accounts 
  • Preparation of Annual Financial Statements 
  • Risk and Compliance 
  • Ensure adherence to internal processes and controls, and act as department’s risk and compliance champion 
  • Month end/year end procedures 
  • Co-ordination of external and internal audit engagements 
  • Lead in the maintenance of clean and up to date Data management, its protection and its optimal usage by the business for drawing meaningful decisions 
Relationship management
  • Act as relationship manager with internal and external stakeholders and resolve queries effectively 
  • Supervise accounting staff and provide on the job coaching / guidance 
  • Act as technical champion and keep team abreast of new developments in accounting standards 
  • Continuous Development 
  • Maintenance and continuous improvement of controls over policy and procedure
  • System management and continuous innovation of efficiencies in accounting package used 
  • Maintain technically strong working knowledge of IFRS, PFMA, DTic, National Treasury regulations 
  • Champion insightful analytics 
  • Lead adhoc projects

Minimum requirements

Qualification Requirements
  • B Com Honours Degree in Accounting 
  • CA(SA) will be an added advantage
Experience / Skills Required
  • Minimum 4 years in progressively responsible financial management roles 
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation 
  • Experience in the preparation and finalisation of the annual financial statements in accordance with current statutory regulations 
  • Experience in budget preparation and reporting 
  • Highly numerate and able to analyse statistical information and interpret financial data to produce reports which can be understood by non-financial colleagues 
  • Financial institution experience is desirable 
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills for self and team 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Strong supervisory or leadership skills 
  • Experience in influencing and representing professional opinion, verbally and in writing 
  • Strong technical skill in performing financial reporting and analysis 
  • Computer literacy – Strong Excel skills, knowledge of accounting systems/programmes 
  • Advanced report writing
