Introduction
The NEF is hiring a Kitchen Assistant to join our Facilities team on a 03 months fixed-term contract. The incumbent's responsibilities will be ensuring that all kitchens are maintained in a hygienic condition including cleaning, washing and preparation duties required to help maintain an organised and smooth kitchen operations.
Job description
Maintenance of a hygienic environment
- Maintenance of a hygienic environment in all kitchens
- Ensure that the serving counters, meeting rooms and kitchens are kept clean
- Collecting dishes from the meeting rooms
- Ensure cupboards are clean and hygienic
- Clearing refrigerators, freezers and storage rooms
- Keeping kitchen walls, floors and surfaces clean
Refreshments
- Set the meeting rooms before time for pre-booked meetings
- Prepare refreshments at least 10 minutes before the meeting commences
- Ensure that all clients are served with refreshments accordingly
- Ensure that Divisional kitchens are properly stocked
Inventory of stock
- Ensure that the grocery, cutlery and crockery inventories are up to date
- Count stock on the last week of the month and submit stock sheet to the FMA for re-order
- Capture the new stock into the stock sheet
- Organise and correctly store the stock
Ad-hoc duties
- Ensure that necessary catering requests are attended to 48 hours prior the event
- Liaise daily with the reception desk on the next day’s calendar of activities
- Report faulty equipment to supervisor
Minimum requirements
Qualification Requirements
- Grade 12
- Basic food hygiene certificate
Experience / Skills Required
- 6-12 months previous kitchen work experience in a corporate environment
- Attention to detail and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and write
- Exceptional time management and organisational skills
- Excellent food preparation skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Sound knowledge of kitchen hygiene and safety standards
